IUFRO 2019

Brazil is honored to host the XXV IUFRO World Congress in 2019, in the city of Curitiba, Paraná State. It will be the first time that it will take place in Latin America. Therefore, it is a unique opportunity for researchers from this region to show how forestry research is important in promoting sustainable development.

The host institutions are the Brazilian Forest Service (SFB) and the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa). It is important to highlight the support of governmental institutions, universities, research institutions and private companies, as well as local tourism entities and Embratur.

The Congress Scientific Committee (CCC) and the Congress Organizing Committee (COC) are in charge of the IUFRO congress organization.

Congress Scientific Committee - CSC

The CSC is responsible for the scientific program of the event. The Scientific Committee of IUFRO 2019 is formed by Dr. Jerome Klaas Vanclay (Chair of CSC - Southern Cross University, Australia), by the IUFRO divisions coordinators (or their representatives), by the representative of the International Forestry Students' Association, by invited specialists and by a COC representative.

Congress Organizing Committee (COC)

The COC is responsible for organizing the event, getting involved in the organization of the Congress technical exhibition and planning the pre-, in- and post-congress activities. It is also the COC responsibility to support the Scientists Assistance Program, favoring the involvement and participation of young scientists from developing countries.

COC IUFRO2019 counts on people from several Brazilian institutions, all engaged and motivated to organize an excellent congress.

Raimundo Deusdará Filho (General Director of the Brazilian Forest Service) and Edson Tadeu Iede (General Manager of Embrapa Forestry) represent the national institutions responsible for the congress organization and they ensure the necessary institutional support, as well as the institutional political articulation at the national level.

COC IUFRO 2019 members

The COC is composed of a core group (SFB and Embrapa) and subcommittees that are led by different institutions. The coordinator institutions of each subcommittee are still forming their teams. The engaged team is: Chairs: Joberto Veloso de Freitas (Chair, Brazilian Forest Service - SFB), Yeda Maria Malheiros de Oliveira (Co-chair, Embrapa Forestry). Executive Secretary: Patrícia Póvoa de Mattos (Embrapa). Subcommittee of Communication: Erich Schaitza (Embrapa), Katia Pichelli (Embrapa) and Evie Costa Negro (SFB). Subcommittee of Strategic Planning: Joberto Veloso de Freitas, Yeda Maria Malheiros de Oliveira, Cassia Barbosa Saretta (SFB), Erich Schaitza, Patricia Póvoa de Mattos, Maristela Abrantes (Embrapa), Rejane Ludwig (SFB), Alexandra Gatti (SFB), Sandra Afonso (SFB) e Lúcia Lopes (SFB). Subcommittee of Excursions and Events: Umberto Klock, Ana Paula Dalla Corte, Alexandre Behling, Dornelles Vissotto Junior, Vitor Afonso Hoeflich, Dimas Agostinho da Silva, Christel Lingnau, Maurício Balensiefer, Ricardo Jorge Klitzke (Federal University of Paraná – UFPR). Subcommittee of Institutional Networking: Luiz Carlos Estraviz Rodriguez, Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture - ESALQ/USP); Subcommittee of Exhibitions: Amaury Paulo de Souza (Federal University of Viçosa - UFV). Subcommittee on Logistics and Infrastructure and Acquisition of Goods and Services: Alexandre Barcellos (Eliseu Alves Foundation - FEA).

The Curitiba Tourism Institute and the city Convention Bureau are also participating in the organization of the congress. The COC also has the support of the Botanical Museum of Curitiba and the Brazilian Institute of Tourism (Embratur).

Advisory Concil

The COC of IUFRO 2019 also counts on the guidance and support of scientists with expertise in the most diverse areas of forestry that will compose the Advisory Council, informally called IUFRO 2019 Ambassadors. Two ambassadors already accepted the invitation: Dr. Allan Bojanic, representative of FAO in Brazil and Dr Richard Guldin, Chair of the IUFRO 2014 COC.
